The 90-Day Framework

Days 1–14: Problem Definition

Before a single line of code is written, define the problem with terrifying precision. Who has this problem? How painful is it? What are they doing today instead of using your solution? What would they pay to make it go away? If you cannot answer these questions with evidence — interviews, surveys, market data — you are guessing. And guessing is expensive.

Days 15–35: Scope Lock

This is where most MVPs die. Feature creep is not a product problem — it is a psychology problem. Everyone on the team has their favorite feature. The founder wants AI-powered recommendations. The designer wants smooth page transitions. The engineer wants a microservices architecture. An MVP has room for none of these.

Lock scope to one core user flow. One. If your product is a food delivery app, the MVP flow is: browse restaurants → add to cart → pay → track order. Days 66–80: Test

Do not ask users what they want. Watch what they do. People are terrible at predicting their own behavior. They are excellent at revealing it through action.

Days 81–90: Launch

Launch is not a press release. It is not a Product Hunt post. It is a data collection event. Push the product to a limited audience — your waitlist, a single market, a beta cohort. Measure everything: signups, activation, retention, referrals, revenue. The numbers tell you whether you have product-market fit or product-market miss.

Common MVP Mistakes

  • Building for everyone: An MVP for everyone is an MVP for no one. Define your ideal user and ignore everyone else. Facebook started at Harvard. Amazon started with books. Start small.
  • Optimizing for scale: If you have ten users, you do not need Kubernetes. You do not need microservices. You do not need a custom CMS. Build for now, refactor for later. Premature optimization is the root of all evil.
  • Hiding from users: The longer you wait to show real users, the more assumptions you are stacking. Show them on day 30, not day 90. Their feedback is oxygen for your product.

An MVP requires three core competencies: product strategy, design, and engineering. In early stages, these can be fulfilled by three individuals or even two if someone wears multiple hats. What you cannot do without is clear ownership of decisions.

The product owner defines what to build and why. The designer defines how it looks and feels. The engineer defines what is possible and when. If these roles are unclear, the project drifts. If one person dominates, the project skews. Balance is essential.

Monitor error logs obsessively. Respond to every piece of user feedback personally. Track retention curves daily. Fix critical bugs within hours, not sprints. This intensity is temporary but essential. The habits you form in the first month set the tone for your product culture.

Funding Your MVP

MVPs require capital. How much depends on complexity, team location, and technology choices. In the MENA region, a focused web MVP typically costs 40,000–80,000 AED. A mobile MVP ranges from 60,000–120,000 AED. These figures assume a lean team and disciplined scope.

Bootstrap if you can. External funding introduces timelines and expectations that may conflict with learning. If you do raise capital, raise enough for two MVPs — because the first one often misses. Having runway to iterate is more valuable than having a larger team.

Vanity metrics kill MVPs. Downloads, page views, and registrations feel good but prove nothing. The metrics that matter depend on your business model:
